Finnish furniture and tableware are widely adored abroad for their elegant appearance and practicality, and have become increasingly popular in Japan in recent times. The creation of Finnish crafts dates back to Finland’s independence from Russia in 1917, and has resulted in a series of remarkable modern designs.
The field of glass products were also significant, and talented designers became internationally active in this industry from the 1930s onwards. ‘Art glass’, glassware with artistic focus, gradually thrived, and Finnish art glass obtained global recognition by the 1950s. The outcomes of the work demonstrate the richness of the northern climate and the possibilities of glass art being expanded.
The exhibition showcases about 140 pieces of work by prominent Finnish glass art artists and designers from the 1930s to the present time. Please enjoy the distinct Finnish style and a diverse range of glass forms.
