About Us<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Gifu Prefecture is located in the central region of Japan. Traditional crafts have long been an important part of the region’s culture and industry. The Tono region (in the south-east of Gifu) has particularly flourished as a production area for ceramics widely known as \u201cMino-yaki\u201d (Mino ware). The region produces a variety of ceramics, forming the world\u2019s largest ceramic industry area today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located in this rich environment, the Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu emphasizes the theme of the ‘Modern Age of Ceramic Art’. Our collection exclusively comprises modern and contemporary works from Japan and abroad dating from the 19th century onwards. Alongside ceramic artworks by individual artists, our unique collection features handmade, practical ceramic wares created by artists, as well as industrial ceramic wares that belong to the lineage of modern design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
